‘Wisdom comes with age’, they say. This festival is imbued with the serenity and wisdom that –with luck – comes of a lifetime of experience. Years of perspective that inspire you to live life to the full. The five (!) generations of dancers in Rosas danst Rosas demonstrate how seasoned performers and young talent lift each other up. The intergenerational aspect also comes into play between Emiel Vandenberghe and the 82-year-old prima ballerina Birgit Keil. Likewise, the singers of Harvest are long past proving themselves, but let their matured voices triumph after decades-long careers. In Richard Strauss’s iconic Der Rosenkavalier, the protagonists defy their own age (and better judgement). And while Ryoji Ikeda and Marina Rosenfeld radiate calm during their cathedral concert, this season’s guest thinker Paul Verhaeghe and Roek Lips delve deeper into the question of what wisdom actually is.
