Steve Reich, from radical to post-modern figurehead
American Steve Reich is one of the most iconic composers of the last 50 years. Maarten Beirens outlines the evolution of his music: from the radical minimal music of his early years, to the rich harmonies of Music for 18 Musicians, to the rediscovery of his Jewish identity since the late 1980s. Beirens reveals where exactly the ingenuity and innovation lie in Reich's music, and why it so greatly inspires Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.
