The nymph through modern women’s eyes

The mythical figure of the nymph frolics at the heart of Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune. She is the embodiment of erotic desire, a fantasy image of woman for and through the eyes of man. Lara Barsacq and her female colleagues dispel this illusion and create instead a hymn to the free body, using dance to free themselves from preconceived notions of sexuality. The Prélude breaks down into electronic music by Cate Hortl, before finally being taken up and performed live by a classical ensemble.
