No matter what detours and discoveries a music lover may make, sooner or later he cannot resist the lure of Johann Sebastian Bach's compositions.
Bach Day After Day reflects on that timeless beauty every day of the year. Ignace Bossuyt is professor emeritus of musicology at KU Leuven. His starting points are specific moments in the life of Bach and his family. He chose mainly those pieces that Bach himself cherished: his treasure trove of just over two hundred preserved cantatas. In these, he expressed the deepest and most diverse human emotions, set to delightful melodies, colourful instrumentation and compelling dialogues between voices and instruments. A selection from his other vocal works, alongside compositions for organ, harpsichord, chamber music ensemble and orchestra, is complemented by works by members of Bach's family.
