Humans and animals reconciled in a sound palette of trills and vocal lines

The YouYou Group is named after the youyou, a loud jubilant sound that expresses joy as well as evokes it on festive occasions. In Arabic, the call is called zaghareet. The Brussels-based vocal ensemble has developed a signature of its own, in which the performers create shimmering and sometimes unexpected polyphonies with their trembling voices. With Jubel, the group celebrates its tenth anniversary. The performance is a palpable-energetic soundscape that stretches out in space like a lilting fleece. From the smallest sound to the loud call, everything breathes in this work. Inspiration for this organic journey full of vocal inflections and changes is drawn from, among other things, the bleating of sheep and the choreographic lines of flocks and their shepherds. It is fitting that this piece is on the programme of this Deep Listening Day. Listening to the sounds of the YouYou Group is an invitation to listen with wonder.
