British-Belgian crew explore a sea of sound
‘Colin Currie is at the summit of percussion performance today,’ headlined British music magazine Gramophone recently. In Tan Dun's Water Concerto, Currie swaps the drum skins for bowls, basins and bottles of water. All of this dripping, splashing and spattering produces a fabulous sound palette. John Luther Adams' oceanic music is nothing less than intoxicating. For three quarters of an hour he immerses us in a gigantic wave of sound. For musical water lovers!
