A moving farewell in the Bach family
In 1720 Bach had the shock of his life when he returned from a trip and was told his wife Maria Barbara had died. Bach's Chaconne is often regarded as a shrine erected in her honour and the Fantasia by their son Carl Philipp Emanuel as a poignant In Memoriam.
