Powerful songs by Brel inspire choreography

Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker creates and dances a duet with up-and-coming talent Solal MariotteI. In this new creation, they draw on their shared interest in chanson and explore its characteristic melodies, moods, gestures and narrative structure. In 2002, De Keersmaeker created her second dance solo, Once, to music by American folk singer Joan Baéz. In BREL, she continues this process as she and Mariotte explore the potential and challenges of choreographing songs, in this case these of Jacques Brel!
