Music for the last breath
A gravely ill composer who pens a requiem mass during the final weeks of his life… it still appeals to the imagination. Sadly, death ambushed Mozart before he could complete his Requiem. In his Schicksalslied, to a text by Hölderlin, Brahms contrasts the joys of heavenly bliss with the whims of human fate. Who better to convey this profound contemplation on life, suffering and fate than Philippe Herreweghe? Time after time he manages to inspire choir and orchestra to deliver a crystal-clear performance, imbued with a deeply spiritual experience.
