Erudite Bach expert enchants on harpsichord
‘Nicht Bach, sondern Meer sollte er heissen!‘ When Beethoven compared Bach to the sea rather than to a stream, he was referring to the depth and vastness of Bach’s oeuvre. But Bach’s family seem to have been equally boundless. Harpsichordist Andreas Staier explores the musical family ties: from uncle Johann Christoph, who Johann Sebastian called 'the profound one', to cousin Walther, who like himself, was not averse to a bit of Vivaldi at the keyboard.
