Erik Satie as godfather of the ambient

The festival Too many keys, scheduled for 10 and 11/04/2020, was moved to 05.09.20. We regret to inform you that this concert evening on 05.09.20 cannot take place and will be definitively cancelled. You can donate your ticket value to our solidarity fund or have it converted into a voucher. Please let us know via the digital form what you wish to do with your ticket(s).

When Reinbert de Leeuw plays Satie, the result is magic. For years, De Leeuw has been championing Satie and his mysterious, dreamy melodies that seem to be going nowhere, but ultimately transform into wonderful layers of sound. Brian Eno, also a fan, called Satie the godfather of ambient. Nostalgic ambient trips are the trademark of analogue synth-master Alessandro Cortini. David Martijn – a member of Belgian electronic rock band Goose – draws inspiration from Satie for new work and pianist Frederik Croene goes in search of the dead-end streets of the piano and the ‘neoclassical’ genre. To close, Soundcast add two young ambient magicians to this evening. Jonas Steurs creates his own completely unique idiom, using live electronics, classical piano and field recordings. Tristan de Pauw embraces us, with wonderful, time-delaying soundscapes. And especially for this evening, he also gives us a contemporary answer to Satie's famous Vexations.

Reinbert de Leeuw unfortunately had to cancel his appearance. Alain Planès will take his place playing this concert.
