A musical portrait of Stravinsky & Debussy’s fascinating friendship

Claude Debussy and Igor Stravinsky met in the summer of 1910, shortly after Debussy had attended the Paris premiere of The Firebird, which had made Stravinsky an instant celebrity on the French music scene. Stravinsky had a great esteem for the twenty-year older Debussy. After all, on the threshold of the 20th century, Debussy had opened up new avenues for French music. In his recital with pianist Alexei Zuev, Lubimov paints a musical portrait of the two composers’ fascinating friendship. On two brand-new straight, parallel-strung pianos - an innovation developed by Lubimov’s bosom friend Chris Maene - they bring to life the magnificent colours of iconic masterpieces, such as The Rite of Spring and Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune.
