Resident artist shines in tragic love story
Henry Purcell was around 25 years old when he composed Dido and Aeneas, one of the masterpieces of Baroque opera. Intense, poetic and filled with recognisable and deeply human emotions, this love drama continues to move audiences. Who can resist Dido’s immortal lament – here undoubtedly performed in a heart-rending manner by the Scottish soprano Carine Tinney – ‘When I’m laid in earth’?
