Brahms’s First Symphony is sometimes referred to as ‘Beethoven’s Tenth Symphony’. While composing it, Brahms must have felt enormous pressure to follow in the footsteps of his famous predecessor. Nevertheless, he wrote a stunningly beautiful and moving orchestral piece that became a true audience favourite. Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s nostalgic Violin Concerto is also one of the highlights of the repertoire, and certainly so in the hands of the young Swedish violinist and rising star Daniel Lozakovich.
