With American orchestral compositions from the 1930s and 1940s, Anima Eterna take us to the New World. The evening’s masterpiece is the ballet Appalachian Spring, composed by Aaron Copland for choreographer Martha Graham. Copland he took the title from a poem by Hart Crane. The score earned him one of the first Pulitzer Prizes for Music. The original version Anima Eterna are performing is scored for a chamber orchestra of thirteen musicians. Especially for the occasion, Bruges's star pianist Alexander Declercq joins the musicians of our resident orchestra. Born storyteller Olav Grondelaers recounts the stories behind the score.
