Arsen Petrosyan is a master of the Armenian duduk, a reed instrument made from apricot wood. In this concert he explores the four forms of love the ancient Greeks recognised: philia, eros, agape and pragma – friendship, desire, universal love and practical, rational love. An exceptionally ‘loving’ programme, featuring music from the 10th to the 19th century. Respectable and wise… and occasionally surprisingly humorous.
Music by Ashugh Jivani (1846-1909), Sayat-Nova (1712-1795), Simeon Yerevantsi (1710-1780), Gregorius van Narek (ca.950-ca.1010) & Armenian folk songs
