Playing with light
In the 1990s, Russian scientists used a giant space mirror to reflect sunlight back to Earth. The aim was to illuminate northern Russia during the polar night. It worked. For a few seconds. The project was called Znamya. In 2021, the governor of the city of Murmansk announced a similar project. Aurélien Goubau travelled to the region in question. He saw the landscapes there and met the locals. None of them had ever seen a single ray of artificial sunlight.
