Politics and intrigue in Mozart

According to librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte, Mozart promised the emperor that The Marriage of Figaro would not cause offense, even though the opera was based on a banned play. Through analysis of its text and music, we find out how Mozart and Da Ponte play the different classes – servant and master – against each other.
