The cosmos through the ears of contemporary composers
Giving earthly form to the sound of the universe: that is what Messiaen did in his Visions de l'amen, in which he expressed 'a theological heavenly vault'. In his Makrokosmos, Crumb also tries to capture the vast elusiveness of the stars. In the hands of the Simplexity piano duo, these two milestones of 20th century piano literature orbit the cosmically resonant work of Annelies Van Parys and Jeroen De Brauwer.
