Singer-conductor Reinoud Van Mechelen (1987) performs as a soloist in opera productions all over Europe, with an emphasis on the French repertoire. As the founder of A Nocte Temporis, he has been transmitting his love of often lesser-known and appreciated Baroque music to the widest possible audience for the past ten years. The ensemble’s incredible textual expression and musicality, never fails to move each of those many listeners. Van Mechelen is getting his first year as a Maker off to an appropriate start with the exuberant fireworks of Les Boréades, the last opera composed by French Baroque master Jean-Philippe Rameau. 'Performing this work with my own ensemble is something I wouldn’t have dared to dream of before that idea was tabled in the context of my Makership.' During the chamber music festival Têtes-à-têtes, Van Mechelen neatly combines his professional and private life when his wife – flutist Anna Besson – joins him for a unique on-stage rendezvous.
‘Les Boréades is Rameau’s ultimate masterpiece. Performing this work with my own ensemble is something I wouldn’t have dared to dream of before that idea was tabled in the context of my Makership.’
