Maker Liam Byrne
Liam Byrne (1982) is a gamba player through and through. He moves effortlessly between centuries-old sounds and contemporary experimentation. His love for music from the 16th and 17th centuries, combined with a healthy dose of curiosity and collaborations with leading composers and artists, make him an artist who surprises and amazes, moves and stimulates. As a Concertgebouw ‘Maker’, he seeks a new aesthetic in 17th-century English string playing. In doing so, he strives for a balance between Renaissance polyphony and Baroque dance: a familiar language, presented with a different accent, firmly rooted in history, yet full of imagination. This coming season, we will hear him at work during the Birthday Happening.
