Maker Christian Bakalov
Christian Bakalov (1973) studied at the ballet school of the Sofia Opera and began his dance career in France. In Belgium, he worked with, among others, Ivo Dimchev, Jan Fabre and Miet Warlop. In 2014, he developed BRIGHT, his first immersive installation, in which the audience plays the leading role. With this, he immediately set the tone for all his subsequent work. Bakalov blurs the boundaries between performers and audience and develops a series of methods to introduce the audience to a poetic world by addressing them one-on-one through various senses. He is rewriting PURE, the second part of his trilogy, specifically for the Concertgebouw. Using the most mundane and everyday objects, he conjures up an enchanting and enigmatic universe.
