‘Beethoven around the world’. Under this ambitious banner, energetic French foursome Quatuor Ebène are visiting eighteen countries around the world, in each case to perform all of Beethoven's string quartets. Bruges is one of the last stops on their world tour, which is also a simultaneous celebration of the ensemble’s 20th birthday. A string quartet pares the music back to its essence: the interweaving of four parts in ever-changing combinations. In Beethoven's hands it became a genre unparalleled in its depth of ideas and emotions.
