The season’s protagonists discuss the new season’s theme

The new season is all about biodiversity and how artists have always drawn from the richness of nature. But being partly shaped by scientist Hans Van Dyck, artist Aline Héau and composer Wim Henderickx, it also takes the necessary critical look at man’s impact on the world. The discussion is spiced with live music. And then with a resounding toast we declare the new exhibition and the new season open.

Season’s Artist Aline Héau

Aline Héau is a French photographer, whose work invariably reflects her strong preference for a refined and graphic aesthetic. Characteristically, she always places the photographed subject centrally and with no reference to space or time. Aline Héau creates her photos using cyanotype, an early photographic process, and she commits the images to glass, a traditional photographic medium.

Season’s Composer Wim Henderickx

Wim Henderickx's achievements are boundless and his future plans are every bit as promising. This ever-affable composer often draws his inspiration from African and Oriental cultures. He sees music as a spiritual experience.

Season’s Thinker Hans Van Dyck

Hans Van Dyck is a biologist. As a professor of Behavioural Ecology at the University of Louvain-la-Neuve, he studies multiform life – or biodiversity – and lectures about it animatedly. He wonders who the animal winners and losers are in a landscape that is geared to humans.
