Venice as total art
With its hundreds of canals, masked balls and opulent palazzi, Venice appeals to the imagination. And things were no different four centuries ago. That extraordinary city attracted countless travellers and artists. Art was omnipresent in Venice, especially music. In this course we examine the special relationship between the architecture and the music of Venice and discuss San Marco and San Rocco, the artists who built them and the musicians who wrote for them, from Gabrieli to Vivaldi.
