Julien Libeer and Chris Maene discuss strings and keys

130 years after Steinway’s last great modernisation of the piano, piano builder Chris Maene came up with a groundbreaking innovation: a straight-strung concert grand. This instrument combines the power of a modern concert grand with the diverse sound registers of its 19th-century predecessor. But how does this new concert grand compare to the familiar Steinway? Julien Libeer literally sets the two pianos side by side, with Bach and Bartók on the music stand and Chris Maene behind the microphone.
