Experienced old hands and young talents join musical forces

Exactly a century apart, two composers yearn for a breakthrough in the music capital Vienna. Under Mozart's galant sanssouci, bubbles an irresistible urge to get away from provincial Salzburg. A hundred years later, Bruckner tries to follow in the footsteps of the titans with a monumental symphony. Unfortunately, his Beethoven and Wagner inspired epic fails to win over the Viennese audience. During its premiere, the hall steadily empties (among those who stay is the young Gustav Mahler). Stunned by this fiasco, Bruckner thoroughly revises the work – successfully: the result is his first real masterpiece.
