Domain Emio Greco
Italian choreographer-dancer Emio Greco began his dance career with the Ballet Antibes Côte d’Azur and subsequently danced with Jan Fabre and Japanese choreographer Saburo Teshigawara. Dutch choreographer-director Pieter C. Scholten studied drama. He initially directed theatre productions and has worked as a dance dramaturge for several choreographers. For both artists, the search for new dance forms and a new dramaturgy of the body is a major motivation. In 1996 they founded the Emio Greco | Pieter C. Scholten dance company. From the outset they and their dancers strove to be more than just a dance group: the company promotes a broader attitude towards the consciousness of the body. In 2009 this ambition led to the launching of the International Choreographic Arts Centre (ICKamsterdam). In February 2014 the duo were appointed artistic directors of the Ballet National de Marseille (BNM). This trend-setting international company is distinguished by a style that crosses the traditional boundaries between ballet and contemporary dance smoothly and without prejudice. Emio Greco & Pieter C. Scholten make contemporary dance with classical elements. The body, with all its instinctive desires, is always central. They employ a language of movement that hovers between awareness and intuition, reality and perception, control and chaos.
