December Dance 16
Crossing Channels (01 - 11.12.16)
The best of the British dance scene, featuring 10 Belgian premieres, by internationally renowned and up-and-coming talents
After a focusses on Montréal and Québec (DD08), Central Europe (DD10), Northern Europe (DD12) and Asia (DD14), this tenth edition of December Dance focuses on the contemporary dance of the United Kingdom.
Under the title Crossing Channels, we present the best of the British dance scene. We spotlight contemporary dance in all of its forms, styles and genres and thus reveal a highly diverse dance scene. Special attention is paid to pure aesthetic dance, dance theatre, conceptual dance, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary cross-fertilisation and the relationship between choreography and music/lighting.
The festival presents new creations by internationally renowned choreographers who have previously performed in Bruges (Akram Khan, Russell Maliphant, Wayne McGregor, Michael Clark, Hofeh Shechter), unique artists with a highly- individual voice (Aakash Odedra, Jonathan Burrows, Scottish Dance Theatre with Damien Jalet) and young, up-and-coming talents (Lost Dog / Ben Duke, Robbie Synge, Vera Tussing, Igor & Moreno). These latter get a chance to show their creations during the December Dance Platform.
Besides all this, this year’s December Dance will once again feature numerous context activities. Finally, faithful to tradition, we close with an awesome family performance by no one less than audience favourite Akram Khan.
Experience December Dance in depth, thanks to the context activities.
