December Dance 15
For almost 35 years Jan Fabre has created theatre, dance and opera productions. He has trained several generations of actors, dancers and singers in his specific theatrical idiom. He calls them his warriors of beauty. They fight for an ideal, they have a mission: they show what man is capable of, beyond anxiety, beyond shame, beyond what is fitting or civilised.
With Jan Fabre, the performer is not simply an implementer, but a co-creator. This edition of December Dance presents artists who have worked - or are still working - with Fabre and have drawn upon that inspiration to forge their own way in theatre and dance. Each of them is highly individual. They are fearless, dare to be extreme, and they create work that is one hundred percent their own, unaffected by trends or fads.
December Dance is Jan Fabre’s choice. Each of these choreographers or theatre makers (Lisbeth Gruwez, Wim Vandekeybus, Olivier Dubois, Marc Vanrunxt, Renée Copraij, Coraline Lamaison, Annabelle Chambon, Cédric Charron, Christian Bakalov, Guillaume Marie …) has appeared on Fabre's stage, bathed in that fire and used it to reinvent themselves. They show what contemporary theatre and dance can do when they have full faith in the energy of the stage, the beauty of the imagination and the mysterious explosive silence of the performer.
