According to Le Mercure Galant, Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre was only five when she was discovered at the court of Louis XIV. She later became a freelance harpsichordist and composer. Carole Cerasi juxtaposes Jacquet’s ingenious suites with character pieces by contemporary François Couperin. ‘Les Vestales’ and ‘Les Nonètes’: they are but two classes of ladies Couperin immortalised in charming vignettes.

A production of MAfestival, presented in collaboration with Concertgebouw Brugge
