FESTIVALS: IBOCCHERINI!
IBOCCHERINI!
FESTIVAL
FRI 04.06.10 / 20.00
Italian composer and virtuoso cellist Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805) spent most of his life in Spain where he worked for illustrious patrons such as Don Luis and Kings Carlos III and IV. Unfortunately this ultimate chamber music composer is all too often overshadowed by contemporaries such as Mozart and Haydn, although his oeuvre has a great deal to offer. High time to give Boccherini the attention he deserves! For a whole weekend the Concertgebouw focuses on his music as well as some of his contemporaries'. Central figure Roel Dieltiens and his Ensemble Explorations surround themselves with musical kindred spirits such as the Edding Quartet, El Concierto Español, La Real Cámara and sopranos Claron McFadden and Soledad Cardoso. Together they perform a great selection of Boccherini’s rich oeuvre, with musical discoveries and well-known pieces such as the Minuet, the Fandango and the Stabat Mater. Fringe activities such as lectures, a debate, a documentary, an exposition and even a tapas lunch, are also on the menu. Immerse yourself in Boccherini's musical world where grand gestures make room for subtlety and concentration.
