4 ELEMENTS – 4 SEASONS
AKADEMIE FÜR ALTE MUSIK BERLIN / JUAN KRUZ DIAZ DE GARAIO ESNAOLA / MIDORI SEILER
WED 01.12.10 / 20.00 / verwacht einduur: 21.40

Dancer-choreographer Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaio Esnaola has been a member of the Sasha Waltz & Guests dance company for years. Here - developing a Sasha Waltz idea – he juxtaposes two pieces of early programme music to form a choreographic concert. These two Baroque pieces - Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Jean-Féry Rebel’s The Elements - have a related theme, but are very different. In The Elements the dancer portrays the process of creation and the cycle of growth and decay. In The Four Seasons it is the orchestra itself – the famous Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin – that is choreographed. The musicians transform musical structures into spatial motion, with violinist Midori Seiler playing a central mimetic role.
