AGENDA
ESTONIAN PHILHARMONIC CHAMBER CHOIR
PÄRT & MENDELSSOHN
THU 11.11.10 / 20.00

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir is Estonia’s most famous ensemble and one of the best choirs in the world. A central place in its repertoire - which ranges from Gregorian chants to Late Baroque, Romantic and contemporary music - is occupied by the music of its compatriot Arvo Pärt, a modern mystic who knows like no other how to draw sweet melodies from a choir. Pärt will naturally be featured in this concert, which is a part of the Concertgebouw’s BALTIC Festival. The EPCC will be singing his Magnificat and Da pacem. It will also be performing psalms by Felix Mendelssohn and the Estonian composer Cyrillus Kreek. Conductor Daniel Reuss says these composers have a great deal in common: they think and write extremely vocally, but manage to draw almost instrumental tones from a choir.
