French choreographer and dancer, Jean Luc Ducourtin, who is based in Brussels, confronts the hierarchic thinking of classical ballet with the democratic principle of contemporary dance, where every step is equally important. After several solo-experiments these past years which sprouted from this special theme and a first test choreography with a group of dancers of the Bayerische Staatsballet München, Jean Luc Ducourt breathes new life into his studies by formulating them in a new dance piece: a trio of classically trained male dancers with a classic female dancer as counterpoint. At the start of 2009, Jean Luc Ducourt brought a version of WORKS BY 3/1 with a recording of Glenn Gould, i.e. Liszt's piano transcription of Beethoven's 'Pastoral' Symphony. Especially for December Dance 09 this creation has been reworked and Jan Michiels will perform the music live.
